Silky Soft Sand

Wet salty and powerful wind

Whipping through my hair

Softening and settling tense muscles

On a gloriously cloudy early morning

Momentary flashbacks of preteen you

Feet atop the silky soft sand

Endlessly throwing a ball

“You throw like a girl

Try doing it like this”

You as the sulky teen

Seemingly endless moments of discontent

Still throwing a ball

Or maybe a frisbee…

Later, in the throes of addiction

I step on the silky soft sand

Wondering how I can remove

Your suffering, discontent, overpowering desires

Remembering the endless throwing of the ball

The day of your funeral

Feet stepping in the silky soft sand

Salty air merging with salty tears

Gentle rolling waves cleansing, soothing, releasing

A year later

The container of your ashes

Releasing again in the gentle rolling waves

Disappearing in a singular flash

Just like that

Gone
